Etsy Treasuries are Fun to Make!

Image
I am just loving creating treasury lists on Etsy. Click on the photos to go to their treasury. Once upon a time it was really tough. You had to compete and win the right to make a treasury. Etsy released treasury spots at odd times. I never could get my head around being there at the right second. It was too much like fighting to win an auction on Ebay - and there are apps for that. Now I can make a list any time I like. What I do is open two tabs on my browser (Chrome if it matters), both Etsy, and set one up as the empty treasury, and the other as my search page. I search and browse, copy and paste until I have a bunch of items for my theme. Then I take a few moments rearranging the items to be a pleasing sequence. I try to group colors or background colors until I like it. The hardest part has been the themes and titles. Sometimes I've been inspired by a single item to build a treasury around it. I like to be timely, so I made a Father's Day treasury. Howe

Flip doll

Image
This doll is part of a beautiful dance that tells the story of a young girl's wishes and dreams. She has an old scruffy doll that she wishes were new and beautiful, and magically the doll transforms. My good friend from college asked me to make this flip doll, and it has been quite a journey.  I now have a new pattern that I might use for some other story telling flip dolls. I enjoyed the sewing, the hand painting and the beading. If you like it, Pin It!

Spring Brocade treasury

Dance Costume and Doll WIP

Image
Here's something I've been doing - making a reproduction costume for a little dancer to wear in her competitions later this year. It will go with a flip doll I'm still making. But the real kicker, and I'm patting myself on the back in astonishment, is that I did it all, including drafting the pattern from scratch, with only the measurements. I'm here in California; the child is in Australia. I'm very relieved that even sans fittings, it worked out. But it's not something I want to do again. I was worried. There is also a petticoat and pantaloons. Here's the face on one end of the flip doll. Enjoying this part a lot.

This poseable Wish Doll wears a blue abstract print dress and comes with a lavender scented sachet pillow. Her sash is a red with a hint of metallic gold. I was inspired by Guatemalan Worry Dolls to make these flexible wire and bead dolls. This one is about 2.5 inches tall. This poseable Wish Doll wears an earth toned stripe dress and comes with a musk oil fragrant sachet pillow. Her sash is red with a hint of metallic gold.
