Coolaberration 2009

I was thrilled to be invited to take part in an art doll round robin with eight other doll artists, Coolaberration 2009. It is just beginning. My doll start and journal head off tomorrow, and I'm really looking forward to seeing the rest.
I'm planning on including at least one recycled element in my work on each project. For my doll start I used a selection of vintage fabrics and remnants to make a patchwork base for embellishment. In addition to using recycled paper in my printers, I used recycled cereal boxes and other grocery food packaging for the foundation of the journal.

Blanket basket

Or so I intend to use what has turned out to be an immense crocheted basket made from at least 200 grocery sacks. Using double and single crochet and scorning a pattern, this is what the new basket looks like. Next to it, the last smaller but just as functional basket for comparison. The large one is roughly 18 inches high, and has a diameter of 22 inches.

Barbie Redux Doll

Here are some pictures, taken by my husband, of my Barbie Redux doll, "Winged Victory". The exhibit starts August 7th with a reception in the evening. I'll be taking along some of my lovely ginger bread cake. There will be a Barbie look alike dress up contest and a treasure hunt. Her head still moves. I figure you could really screw with someone's mind - every time they look at the statue she's looking in a different direction. Heh, heh, heh.
